Abstract / Introduction / Summary:
Female Mandarin duck dying with sword-tailed newt in the gizzard was found on Amami-oshima Is- land in January, 2017. Her death seemed to be due to the tetrodotoxin poisoning from the newt being eaten. Circumstantial evidences suggest that food shortage caused by a poor crop of acorn may relax criteria for risk assessment while in foraging.
