Abstract / Introduction / Summary:
An ovigerous female and an adult male of Ceratothoa verrucosa (Schioedte and Meinert, 1883) were found in the buccal cavity of a red seabream Pagrus major (Temminck and Schlegel, 1843) collected in Kumamoto Prefecture. In this Prefecture, C. verrucosa has only been reported from Tomioka, Amakusa District in 1934. Therefore, this is the first record of this species in the prefecture in 90 years. It is presumed that the long gap of reports of C. verrucosa was due to insufficient research caused by low interest in this parasite. Further accumulation of knowledge regarding the distribution, occurrences, and ecology of C. verrucosa is required.
